The mediating role of self-disclosure between childhood traumas and trust in dyadic relationships

The aim of this study is to examine the mediating role of self-disclosure between childhood traumas and trust in dyadic relationships. This research was conducted with the data obtained from 353 adult individuals, 248 women and 105 men, who are over the age of 18, have successfully completed the dating period and have been in a romantic relationship (married, engaged, dating) for a while. Purposive sampling method, one of the non-random sampling methods, was used to determine the research group. Google Forms was used to collect the data of 353 participants. Personal Information Form, Trust in Dual Relationships Scale, Childhood Traumas Scale and Self-Disclosure in Romantic Relationships Scale were used to collect the data to be used in the study. All of the scales used in the study were psychometrically validated and reliable instruments in Turkey. In the data analysis, Pearson Correlation Analysis was used to determine the relationship between the level of childhood traumas, level of trust in dyadic relationships and self-disclosure levels. Whether the level of childhood traumas, level of trust in dyadic relationships and self-disclosure levels differed in terms of gender status was analysed by t Test. Whether the level of childhood traumas, level of trust in dyadic relationships and level of self-disclosure differed in terms of age, marital status, socioeconomic status, educational level, number of siblings, and duration of relationship was analysed by One-Way ANOVA. 'The Mediating Role of Self-Disclosure between Childhood Traumas and Trust in Dual Relationships' was analysed with Process Macro (Model) plug-in. According to the findings of the study, there is a significant negative relationship between childhood traumas and trust in dyadic relationships, a significant negative relationship between childhood traumas and self-disclosure in romantic relationships, and a significant positive relationship between trust in dyadic relationships and self-disclosure in romantic relationships. According to the results of the research, it was determined that self-disclosure has a mediating role effect between childhood traumas and trust in dyadic relationships.
