Abstract (EN)
In this thesis, a study has been carried out on tracking and keeping archive records of the safe navigation of ships in a spatial and real-time manner in accordance with the standards defined by the International Maritime Organization (IMO) with microcontroller-based embedded systems in geographic information systems. The information to be monitored and archived within the scope of this study are the general alarms of the systems that show the open-closed status of the ship's door and passage manhole covers (hatch covers), the activity-passivity status of the bilge float switches and the activity-passivity status of the fire detection detectors. The aim of the study is to develop a safe navigation monitoring system, which will enable the navigation of any class and type of ship that is licensed to navigate in international waters to be tracked in a real time manner through the internet connection, in accordance with the Collision Prevention Rules at Sea (COLREGs), IEC and SOLAS, as defined by IMO and ISO organizations. As a result of the experimental tests carried out in the thesis study, the locations of the positions of the prototype-simulated bilge, fire, door/hatch and ship general alarms along the coastline were captured along approximately 4 km and the location data received with in repeated two-minute periods related with the activation- passivity status indicators of the relevant alarms were sent to the data cloud server via GPRS technology. Thanks to the developed system; it is possible to monitor the safety of ships which are on the way within real-time in addition to spatially monitoring and to warn the relevant persons against possible unsafe navigation situations by reporting of these situations thus preventing possible accidents.
