Isolation adaptation of nurses in infection control and management for hematology-oncology patients in the period of COVID-19 pandemic

The COVID-19 pandemic affected the whole world, negatively affecting health and causing many deaths. In addition to the risk of disease and death due to COVID-19 transmission, all people in the world have a higher risk for individuals with chronic diseases such as diabetes, hematology-oncology, cardiovascular diseases, in COVID-19 case follow-up follow-up. Because of these risks, nurses, who have important roles and responsibilities in the care and treatment of these patients, have a great place and importance in infection control and management. This study was carried out as a descriptive and relationship-seeking study to determine the isolation compliance of nurses in infection control and method of hematology-oncology patients during the COVID-19 pandemic.The study was conducted between January 2021 and February 2021 with 80 nurses working in outpatient and inpatient treatment institutions in adult and pediatric hematology-oncology units at Bezmialem Vakıf University Medical Faculty Hospital, Istanbul Training and Research Hospital and Istanbul University Cerrahpaşa Medical Faculty Hospital. The data of the research were collected using the "Socio-Demographic Characteristics Identification Form" and the "Compliance Scale for Isolation Measures". Data Descriptive statistics such as frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation and correlation analysis were performed in the SPSS 25.0 program. The data suitable for normal distribution were evaluated using Student T test and One Way Anova test. 92.5% of the nurses are female, 33.8% are married, 43.8% are undergraduate and 27.5% are graduate. 55% of the family members of nurses have chronic diseases. 83.8% of the nurses stated that they stayed at home during the pandemic period. 40% of hematology-oncology nurses have been caught with COVID-19. At the same time, it was observed that 45% of the nurses had a positive perspective from the people around them. 77.5% of the nurses stated that they were aware of the COVID-19 Guide. The mean score of the Hematology-oncology nurses on the Scale of Compliance with Isolation Measures was 73.70 ± 7.765. In line with the data of this study, the fact that nurses are aware of the COVID-19 Guide, the perspective of the people around nurses during the pandemic period is positive, the presence of chronic disease of nurses' family members, gender, marital status, education level, accommodation during the pandemic period is a significant found to be decisive. As a result, it is seen that nurses' compliance with isolation can be increased by following up-to-date guides and by improving their fans, such as the level of education in the nursing profession. In this context, COVID-19 school control and management trainings should be increased within the institution, updated guides should be shared with nurses, and nurses should be encouraged by drawing attention to the direction of increasing compliance in the control and management of the current guide follow-up.
