Social media addiction, self-control-self-management and spiritual resources in university students in the COVID-19 process

Abstract (EN)

The aim of this research is to examine the social media addiction levels, self-control-self-management levels and spiritual resources of university students in the Covid-19 process according to some variables and to determine the relationship between them. The relational survey model, which is one of the general survey models, was used in the study. The sample of this study consists of university students aged between 18-52. The data of a total of 626 participants, 355 (56.7%) female and 271 (43.3%) male, were included in the study. In the study, Bergen Social Media Addiction Scale developed by Andreassen et al. (2016) and adapted to Turkish by Demirci (2019), Ahorsu et al. (2020) and Bakioğlu et al. (2020) Fear of Coronavirus (Covid-19) Scale, which was developed by Mezo (2009) and adapted into Turkish by Ercoşkun (2016), and Westbrook et al. (2018) and Ekşi et al. (2019) and the socio-demographic information form were used with the forms of the Spiritual Resources Scales adapted into Turkish. Research data were collected using a web-based survey system. Social media addictions of university students to age, using social media accounts, controlling social media even when it is very busy, watching videos with religious content on the internet, the increase in the rate of daily use of social media platforms during the covid-19 process, religious videos watched on the internet and online It has been determined that the programs differ according to their effect on the perception of religion. It has been determined that the covid-19 fears of university students differ according to gender, the status of controlling social media even when it is very busy, the status of watching videos with religious content on the internet, the increase in the rate of daily use of social media platforms during the covid-19 process. It has been determined that the self-control-self-management levels of university students differ according to gender, age, control of social media accounts even when they are very busy, and the increase in the rate of daily use of social media platforms during the covid-19 process. It has been determined that the spiritual resources of university students differ according to age, gender, use of social media accounts, watching videos with religious content on the internet, religious videos watched on the internet and online programs affecting the perception of religion. In addition, a low, positive and significant relationship was found between university students' social media addictions and fears of covid-19, a low positive and significant relationship with their humanitarian spirituality, and a low negative significant relationship with self-adjustment and self-evaluation levels.
