Byzantine period buildings at Antalya/Çirali Yanartaş (Khimera)

Yanartas is placed in the national park in Cirali village which is belong to Kemer district of Antalya. It is on a slope which is 4 km North of Olympos ancient city from the eastern Lycia cities and 250 meter above the sea level . It is known that a temple dedicated to Hephaistos in Rome era was built in Yanartas that is defined as `quenchless fire of Lycia? . For this reason the area also called as Hephaistion at ancient time. It is possible to see exedra ruins and vow tablets from the rest of the temple around the area. In this area there are also a fountain, a public bath and a vaulted tomb except the temple . The Byzantium buildings are, the three naves basilica in the area of the temple and its additional building, a chapel which is converted from a public bath and other additional buildings beside. Bazilika has tree phase. The first turn is in the plan as heleneistic basilica with three nave, three apsis. There is figured fresco on apsis half dome. Second turn is also in a plan of basilica with three nave and three apsis; but cover system is was made of vault. Geometric and herbal arrangements which have iconoclast specialities were used at frescos on second turn walls. It is necessitated to leave the area because of the domination of the Turks on the area in 12th century and the church was used as a haunting villa by Seljuks.
