Determination of efficiency of some pesticides application methods on maize crop in Cukurova region

Abstract (EN)

In the maize plants which are grown as second crop, there are two main pests, Sesamia nonagrioides Lefebvre (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae), Ostrinia nubilalis Hübner (Lepidoptera: Crambidae) that need to be controlled. In this study, 6 spraying methods as (1) standard boom equipped with domestic cone nozzles, (2) domestic cone nozzles and tail booms, (3) air induction nozzles, (4) twinjet nozzles, (5) air assisted spraying domestic with cone nozzles and (6) air assisted spraying with TX cone jet nozzles, at two application rates (150 and 300 l/ha) were used. Field trials were carried out in year 2008 and 2009 and two stages (plant height 50 to 60 and >175 cm) plan plants. All methods were evaluated by measuring deposition and coverage on maize plant and ground deposition for endo-drif potential of methods. A tracer (BSF) was sprayed to evaluate the efficiency of methods on plants target and to evaluate biological efficiency at methods a real active with was sprayed. According to the results, the highest deposits, coverage and biological efficiency were achieved with air assisted spraying domestic with cone nozzles at 300 l/ha application volume. The lowest ground deposition was evaluated by twinjet nozzles in stage I and by air induction nozzles by air induction nozzles in stage II.Key Words: Maize sprayer methods, deposition, coverage, second crop maize, biological efficiency
