Some performance characteristics-cooling efficiencies, temperature depressions and amount of evaporated water-of evaporative cooling padmade of cellulose at different water flow in Çukurova regions

Çukurova region is located in hot climatic zone of the world. In the region, the air temperature in the agricultural structures such as poultry house and greenhouse can be exceeded over 30 oC every so often in summer season. High air temperatures in this structures cause heat stress on plants and animals. Pad evaporative cooling systems are widely used in this region to prevent heat stress problem lately. Two types of pads -cellulose paper and concrete-coated baggase- have been used at these cooling systems. There is not enough information about the functional characteristics of these pads under the existing conditions in the region. In this research conducted in Çukurova conditions, some performance characteristics such as cooling efficiency, temperature depression and evaporated water of the cellulose paper pad were determined at the different water flow rates. 2 L/min-m; 4 L/min-m and 6 L/min-m water flow rates were selected in tests. Air velocity passing through the pad was fixed at 1 m/s. According to the results of the research completed during period of June through September, at the selected water flow rates, the cooling efficiencies were determined as 85,46; 81,55 and 80,77 %; temperature depressions were determined as 5,94; 6,15 and 5,56 oC; and the amount of water evaporated were determined as 0,113; 0,119 and 0,113 L/min-m2 respectively.
