Özet (EN)

This study aims to introduce the history of curatorship which became an important profession specifically since the 1960s in the visual art scene; the development and the change within the job description; the initiative events; and to argue the current position of the curators. The research that starts with the first mention of the curatorship in the history, manifests the significant events which enables the profession more visible between the 18th century and 1960 and the effects of these events towards the curatorial practices. Because of the fact that the movements occurred due to the influence of artistic, social and political events through the end of the 1960s, and members of the art scene?s questioning of the institutions like museums and galleries, new and alternative search began; thus, a shift in the notion of curatorship has been seen. It can be observed that curatorship had a transformation in a creative way owing to the significant exhibitions held in the visual art scene in 1960s. Besides, the changes caused by the differentiation of the institutional and independent curators are investigated; varied descriptions of the profession are introduced; the current positions of the both parts with the help of the exhibitions they held and the utterance of variety of the titles are discussed. Lastly, associations, publications, biennials, prizes and curatorial studies that supported the profession to reach to the current position are referred.
