Abstract (EN)

Introductıon: The spleen parenchyma bleeding is the main problem in abdominal trauma surgery. The majority of efforts to combat bleeding focuses on hemostatic materials. Objective: İn this study we investigated the effectiveness of calcium alginate haemostatic agent for Parenchymal hemorrhage of the spleen.Material and methods: Thirty-two female Wistar albino rats were studied on the (6 month, 250 - 300 gr). Groups were divided into 4 groups including eight rats.1. Group (Sham group) (n = 8), After laparotomy was closed.2. Group (SF group) (n = 8), After laparotomy, standard injury at the center of the spleen than 2x2 cm, NACI 0.9% solution impregnated gauze was placed over a bleeding spleen tissue for three minutes.3. Group (Ca-Alginat group) (n = 8), After laparotomy, standard injury at the center of the spleen than 1x1 cm Ca alginate (Sorbalgon) cover was placed over the laserated spleen tissue .4. Group (Control group) (n = 8), Only preoperative and postoperatively blood samples were obtained.Groups in the amount of perioperative bleeding, preop. and postop. 1. day, Hct, Wbc, Hg, Rbc, Plt levels were determined. Statistical analysis was performed. One week after the adhesion scoring, histopathological examination was performed. Results: Postoperatively, the study group than saline group the average decrease in hematocrit, was significant (p <0,05). Bleeding quantity, between the Ca-Alginat group and saline group was significant (p = 0,001).Histopathologic examination of the SF group and the Ca-alginate group, inflammation, vascularization and fibrosis, there was no significant difference (p <0,05). in terms of adhesion there was statistically significant difference only between the Ca-alginate group and the Sham group (p <0,05).Conclusion: In this study Ca-Alginate, splenic parenchyma (Grade 2) injury, there appear to be a successful hemostatic material, even more work done on this subject. I believe we have to be careful for the abdominal severe adhesion between the contact surfaces.Key words: Rat, Ca-Alginate, spleen
