Lace techniques and application of monochromatic lace effects with digital printing technique

Lace has emerged with a need to dress and a desire to be decorated. This art, whose first examples are mesh/netting Works and which gives its most delicate products over time, has had a distinct importance in the history of Textiles. Lace-making is an endeavor for people and also a source of income. From its earliest examples to today, it has also played an important role in the transfer of cultures and traditions. The patterns of the lace, which are mostly named according to the geographies and nationalities to which they belong, were influenced by cultural motifs and became unique with the materials, tools and techniques used. Among the world's laces; European laces stand out with their successful examples. Its success is related to the high quality of its technique, tools and materials. Europe has also been the centre of the lacet rade, with many important lace manufacturing centres owned in the past. In the Middle Ages, laces produced in monasteries became common with household production over time. The simple machines developed with the Industrial Revolution made the production of lace ground fabrics. Many complex patterns that were later produced by the development of machines were able to be produced in series. Lace has an important place in textile design both as a textile technique and in terms of pattern feature. Although hand-made laces can be produced more cheaply with machines, their originality and unique pattern characters have caused them to be imitated by different textile techniques. The development of printing methods enabled the original pattern characters of the laces to be used in textile surface designs. Lace printed textiles have been used in many areas, including clothing, accessories and home textiles. Today's lace-effect print designs are mostly applied with more environmentally friendly and lower-cost digital printing techniques. One of the most important gains of today's technology, digital printing machines, speeds, print quality and color results, compared to the old techniques offer more successful results. This work includes extensive research in to the history of lace, along with the study of monochromatic color arrangements, and the creation of monochrome lace-effect print designs. How lace influenced by the art movements of the period was influenced by Medieval, Renaissance, Baroque art and the Industrial Revolution; it is explained with examples through written and visual sources researched. Later lace print design samples; their usage areas and color preferences were analyzed. As a result of these investigations, monochrome and lace effect print designs were created.
