Altruism and rationality within the framework of behavioral economics

The mathematical conveyance of science of economics hardens the understandability of its practicable, observable and interpretable aspects. It wouldn't be correct to understand the science of economics only with a "rational choice" theory based on the neoclassical approach. Behavioral economics in particular, within the social scientific matrix, requires an interdisciplinary approach. The discipline of behavioral economics, considering human economic rationality and psychological processes, is concerned with the underlying psychological aspects of the human's decision making processes and preferences. In this study, as one of the popular subjects of behavioral economics; the term altruism, with its forms, its psychological and environmental aspects, and contradictions will be examined. In particular, we will ask the question of why people help others even though it would put their lives at risk. The study will review the terms such as generosity, helpfulness, the devotion that can replace "altruism" and stand for the human behavior for dedicated to the good and benefit of others.
