The life and sufism thought of Dede Paşa Bayburdi

Many sects that affect religious and social life in Anatolia have been active. One of these sects is Khalidism, one of the branches of the Nagshbandi order operating in the 19 th century. Erzincan is on of the important cities of Anatolia where sufi life has been lived under the influence of the Halidi banch. Sheikh Dede Pasha, who comes after Muhammed Sâmî il-Erzincânî and Muhammed Beşir il-Erzincânî is among the important representatives of the Halidi branch in Erzincan. Known as Dede Pasha, Mûsâ Baştürk was born in Bayburt and was raised in the spiritual education of Muhammed Beşir Efendi. From Erzincan he is a great mystic who, after Muhammed Beşir Efendi, had important guidance duties in many cities of Anatolia, especially in Erzincan between 1932- 1973. In this study we tried to get information about his sufi personality from face- toface interviews with the people in his conversations tapes recorded from his own voice in order to reveal Dede Pasha's life and his understanding of sufism.
