The changing motherhood and wivehood roles of religious women in a changing society

This study is a qualitative research that aims to examine the meanings that religious women attribute to their changing roles of motherhood and wivehood. Depending on this purpose, interviews were conducted with semi-structured questions with a sample group of 33 people consisting of married women with children, married women without children and single women and the obtained data were interpreted with descriptive analysis and content analysis techniques. The study consists of two parts. The first part of the study aims to present the conceptual framework related to the thesis. In this context, women-centered gender roles were included. In the second part, the changes in motherhood and wivehood, which are among the most important of these gender roles, are viewed within the framework of the answers of the sample group. As a result of the study, it is possible to say that the majority of the participants in the sample group experienced changes in both practice and perception regarding motherhood and wivehood roles. This change is often expressed with the distinction between traditional and modern. However, it has been determined that the mentioned change remained nominal at some points and therefore was not reflected in practice. In addition, it was observed that the roles of motherhood and wivehood were intertwined, especially in married participants. It is possible to consider this situation as a factor that prevents the change in motherhood and wivehood roles. It was observed that other studies on motherhood were also conducted during the period when the study was conducted. It was determined that no independent study was carried out on the wivehood roles of religious women at the time of the study. On that sense, the study aims to be a pioneer in subsequent studies.
