Investigation of epstein-barr virus antibodies among different ages by ifa method

Abstract (EN)

EBV is a member of the family of the human herpes viruses family usually affects during childhood, causing asymptomatic infections and stay latent in human body. The virus is important because of potential oncogenic feature and especially causing severe clinical outcomes among immunocompromised patients. Publications announcing the virus as an ethologic agent are increasing. Researchs declare that the antibodies of EBV are frequently identified even among isolated populations. EBV infects groups in different countries, at different ages and socioeconomical levels and this condition affects the clinical population. In this study, it was planned to examine the specific antibody profiles among the sera of patients who were clinically suspected as affected by EBV. For this aim; 1. EBV-VCA IgG and IgM, EA, EBNA anibodies and VCA-IgG avidity among individuals at different ages 2. The relation between antibody positivity rates and sex and age 3. Different EBV serological profiles investigated according to detected type of infection. This study conducted in Microbiology and Clinical Microbiology Department of Dicle University during two years period. The existence of antibodies in patients? sera were investigated by IFA method in the same department of the same faculty. A total number of 522 individuals attended to the study and 200 of them were female, 322 of them were male. A total number of 428 (81.99%) of 522 patients were seropositive, 94 (18%) of them were seronegative. The most frequent rate of seropositivity was among 6-12 (40.89%) ages. The rate was 64.48%, among the children especially between 3 and 12 years of age. The antibody frequency were growing through 12 years of age, decreased to 7.71%, between 13- 17 of ages and among the group of older than 17 years the rate has found as 25.7%. It was found that the antibody frequency has changed by age. Defining the reactions against to the different antigene classes has lead to determine the EBV?s serological profiles. The rate of past infection was 50.76% (n=265), the primer infection rate was 22.2%(n=116) and the reactivation or chronic infection rate was found as 9%(n=47). Using the EBV serology, may asist to diverse the primary infection, past infection, reactivation and individuals sensitive to EBV. By knowing the epidemiologic factors, the studies for preventing against the potentially oncocenic virus will become more clear.
