Abstract (EN)

This research focuses on the tradition of condolence and meal with mevlid performed within this tradition. The purpose of the research is to analyze how the tradition of condolence is experienced, what kind of changes it has experienced in the process, how the mevlid ceremonies with meals performed within the tradition in question are experienced by the relatives of the deceased, and what the social effects of the traditions and ceremonies are, based on field data. This research, designed in accordance with the qualitative method, was handled with a grounded theory approach that is not based on the verification or falsification of any theory. With this approach, it was aimed to reach some concepts based on field data. The study group of the research consisted of 38 people over the age of 45 who reside in Kadirli and Sumbas districts of Osmaniye province and who lost a first-degree relative in the last 10 years and therefore organized a mevlid ceremoni with meals. In this study, where observation technique was also used, semi-structured interview form was applied to the participants and the obtained data were analyzed under 21 headings. In the study, many concepts such as "Symbolic call", "Routine disrupting action", "Dying tradition", "Virtual (As if) ritual", "Social tide area", "Obligatory informal", "Emotional trigger", "Action in absentia", "Contradictory function", "Third day ritual", "Others effect", "Social shame", "Social blind spots", "Social path determinant" were reached. Ultimately, although various non-religious factors have an impact, it has been determined that the dominant element in the condolence tradition in general is religion and keeping the deceased alive, while the "others effect" and "social shaming " are the determining factors in the meal with mevlid ceremonies performed within the said tradition.
