Özet (EN)

Our aim is to determine which fluoride varnish is more efficient in remineralization prior to orthodontics treatment of patients with poor oral hygiene and to evaluate the effects of applied fluoride varnishes (Bifluoride 12, Enamel Pro Varnish ve Colgate Duraphat) to shear bond strength (SBS). This research is an in-vitro study conducted on 100 extracted human teeth. The teeth used in this study were acquired by extraction due to malocclusion independent from our study. All the teeth were distributed into 5 groups. First group is defined as Group A and only bonded with brackets and debonded to evaluate SBS. Group B submitted to pH cycling, after cycling the concentration of calcium, phosphorus and fluoride on the enamel and then bonded with brackets and debonded to evaluate SBS surface were measured with energy dispersive X-ray (EDX). After their first measurement the teeth were submitted to pH cycling. After pH cycling, enamel surfaces were evaluated with EDX. The mineral concentration of enamel surfaces of C, D and E; were evaluated with EDX before pH cycling, after pH cycling and after fluoride varnishes were applied. Eventually teeth in groups C, D and E were bonded with brackets and debonded to evaluate SBS. The measurements showed that; after demineralization calcium concentration on enamel surface is decreased. After the application of fluoride varnishes, fluoride concentration on enamel surface is increased significantly. Shear bond strength of brackets to sound enamel is significantly higher compared to demineralized or fluoride varnish applied teeth.
