2. ABSTRACTIN IRON DEFİCİENCY ANEMİA THE EFFECT OF ORAL,INTRAMUSCULAR AND INTRAVENOUS TREATMENT ON TOTALANTİOXİDANT CAPACİTY.Dr. Hatice DEMİRIn childhood the most freguently anemia reason is iron deficiency which is atrase element. While iron complex (metalloenzymes) being like inorganic compoundsshape have a big mission in organism, their ionize forms carry potential danger. Ioniciron causes cellular damages by forming free radicals. Because of this, it is clinicallyimportant that the iron increases or decreases. In this study the effects of the iron anemia deficiency (IDA) and its treatment(oral, intramuscular (i.m.) and intravenous (i.v.) the iron practising) on plasma totalantioxidant capacity (TAOC) were investigated.Eighty pattern that are IDA (n: 60) and the healty control group form were takenpattern were seperated four inferior groups (Group I: The oral treatment group (n: 20),Group II: i.m. treatment group (n: 20), Group III: i.v. treatment group (n: 20), Group IV:The healty control group (n: 20). The blood examples from all pattern in 24th hours, 7thday, 6th and 13 rd weeks before the treatment were taken. The level of TAOC in the iron deficiency anemia group was found lowaccording to the control group (p<0.001). A significant difference was determined in24th hours and 7th day between the oral treatment group and the i.m. and i.v. treatmentgroup. The levels of TAOC in all groups in 7th day, 6 and 13 rd weeks was clearly lowaccording to the control group but the oral treatment group was the closest one to thenormal level. It was observed that the levels of TAOK were lower in the treatment inthe i.v. treatment group all phases of the treatment. In 6th and 13 rd weeks of thetreatment difference wasn?t determined between the oral and i.m. treatment group(p>0.05) but the levels of TAOC in i.v. treatment group was determined clearly lowaccording to the oral and i.m. treatment group (p<0.05). A clear change in the levels ofTAOC wasn?t determined in i.m., i.v., oral treatment groups in 13 rd weeks according tobefore the treatment (p>0.05).As a result, the first treatment form to be choosen is the oral iron treatment. Inthe situations that the oral iron treatment couldn?t be applied or couldn?t be active, firstly i.m. and later i.v. can be applied.Key Words: Iron deficiency anemia, intramuscular iron treatment, intravenousiron treatment, parenteral iron treatment, total antioxidant capacity
