Özet (EN)
Iron oxides one by far the most common coloring oxides in the earth's crust and nearly %7 of the earth's uppermost layer is estimated as iron in its various states of oxidation. It might be assumed from the above that any ceramic tradation in the world must inavitably make extensive use of iron. Iron can combine with oxygen in three ways; as red iron oxide (Fe203), as the silvery-grey magnetic iron oxide (Fe304) and as black iron oxide (FeO). It forms the basis of a color spectrum of red, orange, yellow, green, blue and purple in the glaze. Green and blue tones, may be acquired in reductive atmosphere whereas the others are in oxidative atmosphere. Glazes that are saturated with iron oxide give special effects such as Temmoku and Iron- Adventures glazes. When glazes, that contain a high amount of feldspar, a lower amount of silica and a negligable (%1 to %3) amont of iron oxides are fired in reductive atmosphere, they give glazes of green, yellow, blue and brownish color called "Celadon". The celadon glazes technique, which has much reputation among artistic glazes was born in China and has got famous through Europe with its name.
