Abstract (EN)

Important changes in social, cultural, economic and political areas took place in Trabzon during the power of Democratic Party. In social area, names of settlements were changed and amendments in districts and sub-districts were made, in addition to these, hospitals, health centers and many social facilities were opened. In the years 1950-60, Trabzon?s infrastructure was kind of rebuilt. As for cultural area, educational studies were primarily handled and schools were built in each district of Trabzon. Democratic Party left its greatest inheritance to Trabzon by founding Karadeniz Technical University. Public education studies were accelerated, new cinemas were opened, and lots of theatre and concert groups gave performances as well during this period. Cultural events organized by Trabzon Music and Trabzon High School Graduates brightened Trabzon?s cultural life. New journals and bulletins, specially ?East? which is Democratic Party supporter, were introduced to broadcast life, and press was divided into two opposite sides as it is in the politics.Black Sea people, who suffered from famine and poverty during World War II, got off the poverty threat thanks to the cheap wheat given to the region after the first years of DP. Exported goods like tobacco and hazelnuts were valued; Trabzon Port was a significant centre of import and expert. With the government decisions, tea growing was encouraged, stockbreeding was rehabilitated. Higway works were acceleteradet in transportation airport being in the first place. New industrial enterprises were opened, The number of workplaces in the city increased. Sosyo-Economic problems were tried to be solved and the Municipality put many people on salaries with the purpose of helping. In Trabzon, where CHP was leading in politics till 1950, DP achieved to win the general elections as listed in 1954 and 1957. In Trabzon politics, which witnessed the competition of DP and CHP between the years 1950-60, Liberty Party, Nation Party, Republican Nation and Republican Peasantry Nation Party tried to gain a place for themselves. With the coup in 1960, Trabzon deputies of DP were judged and some of them were sentenced to penal servitude.
