The university education under the period of Democrat Party as a goverment party (1950-1960)

Turkey entered into the period of change inside and outside of Turkey under DP power. It was reached a economical succes during the first period of DP?s power decennium. DP enhanced the suffer for the integration to West with a great public support. The education was changed from the primary school to higher education under this period.It was aimed firstly to enhance the number of qualified man power because it was determined as a main goal. For that purpose, the number of students and lecturers of the existing universities and colleges were increased. For the technical education of man power, many technical schools opened.The universities were improved quantitatively so fast. New four universities opened other than the existing three universities. As the works on integration of suffer to the West, the education model changed from German model to American model. The collaboration was established with American universities, during the establishment of new opened universities(ODTÜ, Atatürk Univesity and KTU). As many students and lecturers were sent to the USA, so many professionals also were taken into Turkey.The effeciency of CHP in the state and university was tried to be reduced. For that purpose new modifications were made on the law of Universities. The structurers was tried to be taken under pressure by whom criticised the DP? s performance.After 1957 the economic problem of Turkey reduced the puclic support on DP. Even so DP tried to prevent uniting of CHP?s and media?s opposition. Every manipulation to the universities made the students opposite to DP. The universities politicized as aparting from their basic aims. DP has increased this situation with violent movements. These tragic events was the end of DP.
