The econometric analysis of the relationship between Turkish economy with maritime transport

With the globalization that started in 1980, international trade started to be important. The understanding of the market in international markets has brought along the need for 'transportation'. Thanks to the transportation of large tonnage loads at one time, maritime transportation has created economies of scale and has become the most preferred transportation system today. Therefore, maritime transport is in parallel with the revival of trade. Therefore, a parallel relationship is expected between the economy and maritime transport. And 1973 and 1979 world oil crisis that led to structural breaks in Turkey's economy, 1989 Financial Crisis, 1997 in maritime trade in parallel when crises such as the Asian crisis has been observed that examined experienced similar declines. Economic development is one of several inventory showing the Producer Price Index and the preference for dry cargo ships of small tonnage Turkey representative of maritime trade relations between them were analyzed. The choice of small tonnage dry cargo shipping is that dry cargo has a much higher market share than other cargoes, and that irregular line transport can more clearly express demand fluctuations. The aim of this study was to determine the relationship between Turkey's economy and maritime transport. Thus, the investments will be directed to maritime transport which has a critical importance for Turkey can be identified more easily. For this purpose, 2008: 1-2016-02 dates for PPI data from the Turkey Statistical Institute (TUIK), Turkey and the data set for small tonnage of dry cargo vessels provided by İSTFİX. Analysis of the relationship between Turkey and maritime transport with the economy VAR model was used. Based on the var model used, Granger causality analysis was conducted and it was concluded that ISTFIX series was the cause of PPI series.
