Abstract (EN)

Retrofitting is defined as increasing of structure's strength and stiffness in order to obtain an earthquake-resistant building. Retrofitting applications in reinforced cencrete structures depend on structure planning, site of building, geographical region and the behaviour of structure under the vertical and lateral loads. The aim of the retrofitting is to extend the structure's lifetime. The main objectives of retrofitting are to increase the stifness and ductility of the structure, elimination of the existing eccentiricities, rehabilition of the dynamic characteristics and increasing of the load carrying capacity of the stucture. In this thesis various retrofitting proposals are presented and the cost analyses are performed for each proposal. The results obtained from these proposals are compared to each other and the existing building. As a result of these comparisons, the solution proposal, included shear walls in interior and exterior axes yielded the most appropriate results in terms of stiffness and cost.
