Abstract (EN)

This study is a randomised controlled experimental study conducted to determine the effect of cognitive behavioral therapy based coping psychoeducation through humor on the sense of humor, self-esteem and depression levels in patients diagnosed with depression. The research was conducted at Mardin Training and Research Hospital and Kızıltepe State Hospital between January 31 and May 31. The sample of the research consisted of 60 patients diagnosed with depression (30 control, 30 experimental),who applied to these hospitals. In the collection of data, "Personal Information Form, Beck Depression Scale (BDS)" , "Coping Through Humor Scale (CTHS)", " Multidimensional Sense of Humor Scale (MSHS)" and "Rosenberg Self Esteem Scale (RSES)" were used. Data were collected through face-to-face interviews. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy - based coping through humor psychoeducation program was applied to the experimental group as group training (consisting of 5-8 people) twice a week, for a total of 8 sessions. The control group did not receive any treatment other than routine treatment. Analyzes were evaluated with the help of SPSS 22.0 Programme. In the pre-test, it was determined that there was no statistically significant difference in the mean total scores of BDS, CTHS, RSES and MSHS and of the patients in the experimental and control groups (p>0.05). In the post- test, 1st follow- up test and 2nd follow- up test scale scores, it was determined that the RSES and BDS total score averages of patients in the experimental group were lower than the patients in control group, while the MSHS and CTHS total score averages were high and statistically significant (p<0.05). Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) based coping psychoeducation through humor; Increasing the self- esteem, sense of humor, and coping levels of individuals diagnosed with depression through humor, It was determined to be effective in reducing the level of depression. İt is recommended that psychiatric nurses use the CBT- based coping with humor psychoeducation program in the treatment of depression.
