Lost tales of Dersim: In daily life a socio-cultural analysis of gender roles through fairy tales

Religious belief, daily life practices, social life style, economic, political and social relations, symbols, funeral ceremonies, customs, traditions, wedding ceremony, eating habits, ideology and gender, which function as cultural transfer between the past and future of a society. Fairy tales reflecting their roles are of unique value. In this sense, tales are also described as the reflections of the events or situations that a society/nation has gone through. In this study, which is the first study to analyze the tales told in the Dersim region according to gender roles, descriptive analysis was preferred among the qualitative research methods and the compiled tales were examined in two main themes with the theme of women and men in economic and social relations. Attention was paid to the fact that the works included in the study were compiled from the Dersim region using scientific methods. As a result of the in-depth analysis of 8 tales, which were chosen in accordance with the subject of the study and reflecting the gender roles in daily life, among the 12 compiled tales with the theme of women and men in economic and social relations; The obedient, dependent and passive female figure depicted in traditional tales is sometimes the opposite in the tales told in the Dersim region, women are visible in the public sphere when necessary in economic relations, provide a living in the house with the man, poverty exists for both genders, women are more common in domestic work. Although it is at the forefront, it has been seen that men also take an active role in housework from time to time, and female characters can often challenge patriarchy and make men listen at decision-making points. It has been determined that the female characters are in a strong and positive position to ensure justice and right, the neighborhood/guest relations are dominant and the rituals and daily life practices of the Dersim belief are reflected in the narratives through symbols.
