Investigation of teachers' views on the quality of decision-making processes of principals working in Turkish public schools

The main purpose of this research was to determine the views of teachers on the quality of decision-making processes in schools, to reveal the roles of teachers in the process, and to reflect what can be done to increase the efficiency of the decisions taken in terms of realizing the school's goals from the teachers' point of view. The study was carried out with basic qualitative research which is one of the qualitative research types. The basic qualitative research was an experimental type of research that examines a contemporary phenomenon in its real-life context, especially if the boundaries between the phenomenon and the context were not clear. The data were collected with a semi-structured interview form which contains the opinions of the teachers about the decision-making processes. The working group of the study consists of 9 teachers, working at Turkish public primary schools in Bursa in 2020-2021 academic year. The results of study indicated that teachers were more involved in the decision-making process in academic decisions and decisions that directly concern them or their branches nevertheless it was concluded that they were not included in administrative decisions other than these. Furthermore, it was stated by the teachers that the last decision-making element in the processes of including teachers in the decisions taken at schools is the school administration. It was determined that teachers should have been included in the decision-making process in terms of the quality and applicability of the decisions taken. In addition to those findings, as a result of the study, it was concluded that the qualifications of administrators and teachers, economic infrastructure, democratic decision-making processes and the personal rights of teachers and administrators should have been protected in order to make more qualified decisions in schools.
