Analysing middle school cello curriculum of the state conservatories and program development proposal

Abstract (EN)

The purpose of this study is to examine the middle school cello curriculum of the 12 conservatories in Turkey and to propose a new program. The study is composed of three main parts. The first part contains information about music education, concepts of education and curriculum development studies in Turkey. In the second, pre-college music education in abroad is described generally. In addition, information about cello curricula in different countries and studies which can be helpful to create a cello curriculum are mentioned. In the third part, which it is the professional music education institutions in Turkey have been mentioned and starting grades and levels of the 12 conservatories providing middle school education are investigated. The curriculum of the cello lesson of the middle school circuit of these schools was compiled and collected in 8 tables. For each school, 4 tables which includes the names of the scales/arpeggios and exercises, etudes, sonatas and concertos that students must to study in the school year are prepared. In addition to this, 4 tables which include the exam repertory are prepared. Curricula of the 12 schools are compared. With these comparisons and the studies about elementary and intermediate level cello curricula, suggestions were made to improve the existing curricula.
