Özet (EN)
Aim: The aim of this study was to retrospectively evaluate the frequency of indication for lateral approach sinus floor augmentation (LASFA) by evaluating the residual bone and maxillary sinus with Cone Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT) in patients with at least one missing maxillary molar. Materials and Methods: We retrospectively analyzed 402 CBCT reports obtained for various indications in 402 patients who applied to our faculty and met the inclusion criteria. 458 maxillary sinuses were measured. An equal number of men and women were included in our study. The residual vertical bone height (RVBH) in the edentulous area was measured in ten equally spaced sections mesio-distally in the area under the maxillary sinus region. Then, the numerical average of these ten values was taken and the RVBH distance of the relevant region was recorded. Patients were divided into 4 groups: 18-28, 29-39, 40-50 and >50 years of age. Patients with RVBH≤ 5 mm were included in the group of patients requiring LASFA, and patients with RVBH> 5 mm were included in the group of patients not requiring LASFA. Results: The proportion of patients requiring LASFA was 28.20% and the proportion of patients not requiring LASFA was 71.80%. When analyzed according to RVBH measurement, the mean RVBH of the patients was 7.68±3.69 mm (minimum: 1.31-maximum: 19.73). No significant difference was found between the groups according to age distribution (p=0.714). When gender distribution was analyzed, it was observed that there was a difference between the groups. The rate of female patients was 41.10% in the group requiring LASFA and 53.50% in the group not requiring LASFA, and it was found to be higher in the group not requiring LASFA. The proportion of male patients was 58.90% in the group requiring LASFA and 46.50% in the group not requiring LASFA and was found to be higher in the group requiring LASFA (p=0.017). Conclusion: When all these results are considered, the prevalence of indication for lateral approach sinus floor augmentation did not differ according to age, but it differed between genders and was more common in males than females.
