Digital literacy and values

Values are the basic principles and norms that shape people's beliefs, attitudes and behaviors. These principles create the cultural structure of societies and ensure the social harmony of people. Digital literacy refers to the ability to use digital technologies effectively and efficiently. In today's world, digital literacy skills have an important place in the field of education, and educators' possession of these skills increases the success of educational processes. The aim of this master's thesis is to examine the relationship between teacher candidates' digital literacy skills and their value perceptions. The study examined how prospective teachers' digital literacy skills affect their value perceptions. In the study, prospective teachers' digital literacy skills and value perceptions were measured using the Portrait Values Survey and the Digital Literacy Scale. The reliability of the scales was evaluated with Cronbach's Alpha values and high reliability was found. Normality analyzes revealed that the data were normally distributed. The findings show that digital literacy skills have a significant impact on teacher candidates' value perceptions. The effects of demographic variables (gender, age, department) on value perceptions and digital literacy skills were also examined. It has been observed that variables such as gender, age and department create significant differences on digital literacy skills and some value perceptions. It is recommended that training programs be enriched with content aimed at gaining digital literacy skills. In addition, it is thought that future research on this subject with larger and more diverse samples will increase the generalizability of the findings.
