Examination of the activities in the religious culture and moral knowledge textbooks in terms of key competencies

In this study, it is aimed to examine the activities in religious culture and moral knowledge textbooks in terms of key competencies. In this context, the activities were examined in terms of 8 key competencies in the curriculum. 'Communication in mother tongue', 'Communication in foreign languages', 'Mathematical competence and basic competences in science/technology', 'Digital competence', 'Learning to learn', 'Social and citizenship competencies', 'Initiative taking and entrepreneurship', 'Cultural awareness and expression'. In live with the purpose of the study, qualitative research method and case study design were used. The data were collected by document review technique and content analysis was preferred in the analysis of the collected data. The documents examined fort he collection of the study data are the secondary school 5, 6, 7 and 8 th grade religious culture and moral knowledge textbooks approved by the Board of Education and Discipline and taught in the 2021-2022 academic year. The relationship between the activities in these selected textbooks and the key competencies was examined at the grade level and the findings of the study were reached. According to the findings obtained in the study, it was concluded that the activities examined in the secondary school religious culture and moral knowledge textbooks were not evenly distributed to 8 key competencies. It was determined that the activities were mostly related to learning to learn and communication competencies in mother tongue. In addition, the competencies of communication in foreign languages, digital competence and initiative taking and entrepreneurship has been found to be related to a very small number of activities. Based on the results obtained, various suggestions were made at the end of the study in terms of both the preparation of textbooks and the contribution to other studies related to the problem of the study.
