Abstract (EN)
Information is an important asset of institutes and it contributes to the intellectual capital. Data which is created and stored in the digital environment helps to reach information. Regarding the level of technology and its high developing speed, the volume of data has reached to huge amount and will continue to increase for coming years. It is harder to produce meaningful information from data as the data becomes huge. Data enables to produce lots of information for institutes. This is valid for all institutes regardless of being a profit or non-profit institute. Most of the companies use data to gain a market competitive advantage. Companies have CRM and data mining departments to achieve it. Also, companies use the data to provide information to legal authority for their requests. For non-profit institutes, data is crucial also. For a research institute working for climate modeling, the data stored in years is so important. Information which is derived from data in the operational systems should be meaningful and consistent. In order to transform data to information correctly, data warehousing constituted its own principals and traditional data warehouse development methods emerged. It is frequently seen that data warehouse projects are not successful as expected. With the thesis work, traditional development method is investigated and some proposal are made for potential improvement areas. How to implement a more dynamic data warehouse development is researched. As a research method, data warehouse development life cycle, potential problems and solutions are examined by literature review. In the final part of thesis, an example of dynamic data warehouse application is described to support the finding and proposals.
