A meta synthesis study on the postgraduate researches in the field of listening/watching skills

Language is the most advanced communication tools to people use. It is very important in daily communication, academic life and social relations. Language consists of four skill areas. These are the areas of listening, speaking, reading and writing. All four skill areas need to be developed for good language development. Listening is a skill that we first acquire in language skills, leading to the acquisition of other language skills. It is true that listening is innate. However, listening is also a skill and can be improved through training. The aim of our research is to examine the postgraduate research conducted in Turkish Education departments in the field of listening according to various variables and to reveal them as a whole between 2005 and 2019. It has been tried to show that the importance of listening skill is neglected compared to other skill areas. The model of this research, which aims to bring together and examine the postgraduate research in the field of listening, is determined as a Meta-Synthesis pattern in the qualitative research type. In our research, Meta-Synthesis of postgraduate research conducted in Turkish Education departments of our universities between 2005 and 2019 were included. A total of 55 master's and doctoral studies in Turkish Education departments have been reached by searching the Y.O.K. (Higher Education Institution) National Thesis Page with the keyword "listening". These studies were given the codes A1, A2, A3.., A55 in order from the past to the present. First of all, general information of the coded researches are classified, in this context, the publication years of the thesis, the types of the thesis, the universities where it was made, the titles of the advisor, the number of repetitions of the keywords are included. Later, researches were examined methodically. In this context, the methods, models, data collection tools, data analysis methods, sample groups and sample numbers used in research are included. Finally, the suggestions made in 55 studies were examined and the most repetitive suggestions were divided into 27 themes. These findings are shown with the necessary tables and graphics. Suggestions were made based on the findings and results of the research.
