Dr. Ayşe POLATÖZ : Yrd. Doç. Dr. Hamide KAVAK According to the Theory of Special Relativity laws of physics valid in one inertial frame are valid in other inertial frames. Also,the speed of light is invariant under Lorentz transformations. From these principles we try to obtain a relativistic quantum theory which also agrees with the principles of non-relativistic quantum theory. This was achieved by Dirac who found an equation which gives antiparticle solutions as well as solutions for particle with spin 1/2. On the other hand, in Dirac equation odd operators couple small and large components of the wave function. In order to decouple them Foldy-wouthuysen transformations are used. In this thesis we applied the methods of Relativistic Quantum mechanics and Foldy-wouthuysen transformations to the hydrogen and investigated the corrections brought to the energy levels by a relativistic hamiltonian.
