Evaluation of knowledge of dentists about temporomandibular joint diseases

Temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disorders are common in the population. A survey was planned to evaluate the knowledge of dentists about TMJ diseases. The questionnaires were applied to 400 participants, 200 of them were general dentists and the remaining 200 were specialist dentists. SPSS for Windows 17.0 was used for statistical analysis. Mean and standard deviation, median (min-max) and % (frequency) values were given for descriptive statistics. Kruskal Wallis, Mann Whitney U and Bonferroni corrections were used for statistical analysis, and Kruskal Wallis or Mann Whitney U tests were used when necessary. He also made comparisons with chi-square tests. A p <0.05 level was considered significant in all analyzes. Relationships of dentists' knowledge about TMJ diseases between title, gender and time after graduation were examined. In the future, studies that examine these factors in larger populations in detail may help to obtain more detailed results. Our results show general information about TMJ disorders dental practitioners and specialist dentists in Turkey and detection of experience, evaluation of knowledge about TMJ diseases, identification of weaknesses, courses and training will be done in the future is considered to provide useful information in terms of shedding light.
