Evaluation of metabolic and inflammatory markers after exenatide in diabetic obese patients

Abstract (EN)
Objective: Dicle University Faculty of Medicine: Evaluation of Metabolic and Inflammatory Markers After Exenatide in Diabetic Obese Individuals Methods: In this study, a total of 119 patients aged between 18 and 90 years diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (DM) and obesity (BMI ≥ 30), who were treated at Dicle University Hospitals between July 1, 2013, and December 31, 2019, will be retrospectively examined. Metabolic and inflammatory markers will be evaluated after exenatide treatment. Results: The demographic characteristics of the patients included in the study were evaluated. A total of 119 patients were enrolled in the study. According to the results obtained, the mean age of the patients was determined as 52.26 ± 8.93. It was observed that 17,6% of the patients were male, and 82.4% were female. The average of LDH/albumin ratios for patients was determined as 61.25 ± 22.52 before receiving exenatide and 54.43 ± 14.27 after 6 months of exenatide treatment. There was a statistically significant difference between LDH/albumin ratios before and after exenatide treatment at the 6th month (Z=-4.167; p<0.05). The LDH/albumin ratios at the 6th month after exenatide treatment were found to be lower compared to the ratios before exenatide treatment. It was observed that the LDH/albümin ratio decreased in 72 patients, increased in 36 patients, and did not change in 36 patients. The average of CRP/albumin ratios for patients was determined as 0.33 ± 0.33 before receiving exenatide and 0.28 ± 0.29 after 6 months of exenatide treatment. There was a statistically significant difference between CRP/albumin ratios before and after exenatide treatment at the 6th month (Z=-4.285; p<0.05). The CRP/albumin ratios at the 6th month after exenatide treatment were found to be lower compared to the ratios before exenatide treatment. It was observed that the CRP/albumin ratio decreased in 76 patients, increased in 29 patients, and did not change in 2 patients. Conclusion: We observed that the use of exenatide in patients diagnosed with chronic diseases such as DM and obesity improved especially basal albumin levels in patients and led to a decrease in basal CRP and LDH values. In addition, we found that it significantly reduced blood glucose levels and HbA1c levels. Thus, we identified the significant role of exenatide in preventing and treating the course of the existing chronic disease and potential complications in diabetic obese patients.
