Abstract (EN)

In the historical district of Diyarbakır known as Suriçi, there are 8 churches that have survived to the present day. Among these, the Ancient Assyrian Church of Virgin Mary, Surp Giragos Armenian Church, and Mar Petyum Chaldean Church are open for worship. The others have been repurposed for different functions. Furthermore, research has revealed the existence of church structures outside of the Sur district. The Alipınar Assyrian (Mor Kuryakos Chaldean) Church, the Çarıklı (Sharukiye) St. Smuna Church, and the church located in the Sati neighborhood are among them.. Today, Alipınar neighborhood is an area where families with poor socio-economic conditions and who have migrated from rural areas to the city reside. The residents here do not possess the consciousness required to preserve historical monuments. In the neighborhood, there are registered and valuable structures alongside the Alipınar Assyrian (Mor Kuryakos Chaldean) Church. Many of these have been built as vineyard houses and there are many abandoned houses in the area. Even though the church is owned by the treasury, there are no efforts carried out by state institutions for the preservation of the structure. As a result, the building is deteriorating rapidly over time. Uncontrolled illegal constructions causing significant damage to the building can be found on all four sides of the church.. The aim of the study is to introduce the Alipınar Assyrian (Mor Kuryakos Chaldean) Church located in the Alipınar neighborhood, which is among the areas containing cultural assets outside the Suriçi settlement in Diyarbakır, and to investigate its original settlement pattern. The goal is to make measured drawings of the Alipınar Assyrian (Mor Kuryakos Chaldean) Church, identify deterioration analysis, and create a restitution and restoration project. Additionally, the aim is to introduce the registered and valuable residences located in the vicinity of the church in order to identify the architectural structures in the area that require preservation.
