The depression levels of family physicians and family health workers working in the family health centers in Diyarbakir province and the Factors Affecting this situation

Depression is one of the most common diagnosed of all disorders in patients admitted to health facilities. Depression, which is reported to be 10-20% prevalence among in Turkey, contains many symptoms related to cognitive, emotional areas and is a health problem that concerns the person and society in terms of its high prevalence, being chronic and repeatative nature. As in other professions, psychological condition, especially depression, negatively affects work and affects work life. The aim of this study is to determine the frequency of depression in family physicians and family health workers working in Diyarbakır city center and to determine the factors that lead to this situation. In this cross-sectional study, the total number of 284 family physicians and 250 family health workers working in Diyarbakır city center has been targeted and 161 (56,7%) of the family physicians and 158 (63,2%) of the family health workers have agreed to participate in the study. The participants were given the necessary information and a questionnaire consisting of four parts was applied. The mean age of the participants was 37 ± 9,3 (min: 19, max: 65) and 138 participants were male (43,3%), 181 were female (56,7%). The evaluation based on ≥ 17 prediction value, 84 people (26,3%) were diagnosed with depression. The mean Score of Beck depression scale was 11,28 ± 8,14 for males, 12,56 ± 8,20 for females, 11,68 ± 8,05 for family physicians, 12,33 ± 8,33 for family health workers. The prevalence of depression was 25,4% in men, 27,1% in women, 27,3% in family physicians, 25,3% in family health workers. The frequency of depression has been found higher than the world and Turkey average according to the World Health Organization's 2017 data. It should be aimed to evaluate family physicians and family members in terms of depression with qualified studies and the risk factors that arise in this subject should be minimized.
