Church to mosque structures in Diyarbakır and Şanlıurfa province

ABSTRACT There are many architectural buildings from various periods in Diyarbakır and Şanlıurfa, two of our provinces located on the transition zones of Mesopotamian and Anatolian cultures and traditions. In the center and surroundings of these two cities, there are movable and historical artifacts from many great states and civilizations such as the Mitanis, Mervanids, İnanoğulları, Nisanoğulları, Ayyubids, Abbasids, Great Seljuks, Anatolian Seljuks, Akkoyunlus, Ottomans, Zengis, Artuqids, Ilkhanate, Mamluks, Dulkadıroğulları, Safavids and Armenians. There are immovable cultural assets. Some of the structures that have survived from these states and civilizations have undergone changes based on people's needs, religious ideologies, life philosophies, traditions and customs. While these changes are completely evident in some buildings today, they are manifested in some buildings as a result of being built on an old building or transforming an old building into another. In our research, we examined six mosques located in Diyarbakır and Şanlıurfa provinces, which have been converted from churches to mosques and have become the religious symbol of many civilizations, civilizations and states, and are of great importance in terms of religious beliefs, which are among our immovable cultural assets that can serve as examples of such structures, and are constantly developing and changing. We highlight the importance of these building types by touching on the changes caused by the current world conditions on the buildings.
