Abstract (EN)
The aim of this study is to determine how academic studies on natural disasters are reflected in the 2018 and 2024 social studies curriculum and textbooks and to offer concrete solutions to the deficiencies, if any. In line with this purpose, the academic studies on natural disasters covering the last 10 years from 2013 to 2023 and the 4th, 5th, 6th and 7th grade social studies textbooks and the implemented curriculum were examined. In this study, the textbooks for each grade level from two different publishing houses were examined during the spring semester of the 2022-2023 academic year using the document analysis method. The findings obtained were analyzed through document analysis. According to the results, it was determined that the curriculum and textbooks related to natural disasters are sufficient. However, while natural disasters are included at every grade level, it was found to be more limited in the 6th and 7th-grade textbooks. Based on the examples of academic studies on natural disasters reflected in the 2018 and 2024 Social Studies curriculum and textbooks, it is assumed that the suggestions of academic studies on natural disasters are generally taken into consideration. As a result of all these, although the curriculum and textbooks have sufficient content, it is important to eliminate some deficiencies by making updates.
