The Relationship between mental disorders and domestic violence against 15-49 years old married women in Doğankent Health

ABSTRACT The Relationship Between Mental Disorders And Domestic Violence Against 15-49 Years Old Married Women In Doğankent Health, Education And Research Center The mental disorders of women are problems in public health. Domestic violence against women may cause physical and mental health problems of women. This study is a cross sectional analytic study planned to identify the mental problems of women diagnosed in the primary care with the Prime MD test and the relationship between domestic violence against women and these women with this diagnose. The study organized on systematically selected 395 married women of 15-49 years old in Primary Health Care Center Region of Doğankent Health Education and Research Area leveled to the situation of socio-cultural state. In study group mean age was 32.31±8.14 and the 41.3% of them had at least one mental disorder. With or without other disorders the mood disorders ratio was 22.8%, the anxiety was 24.8%, somatoform disorders was %16.9. Domestic violence scores were between 0.33 and 7.94, mean 2.98Ü.32 over 10 points. The score was more higher if there was no family consent on marriage, no civil wedding, no job, no enough income and if they are frightened from their husbands. The relationship between socio-demographic features and mental health of women domestic violence appraised with logistic regression. Educated and married more than 5 years got more diagnose of mental disorders (p<0.05) The diagnose of mental disorder raised 1.565 times more when domestic violence score raised one point (p<0.001). Although due to the age related violence acceptance, the domestic violence score was more in 15-29 and 30-39 age groups with mental disorder then with-out mental disorders, there was no difference in 40-49 age group with mental disorder or not. Also the mean score was much higher in co-morbid diagnosed women than the single diagnosed women (p<0.001). When they are one by one diagnosed, the abused women in family were more in serious mood disorders and somatoform disorders and in every form of anxiety (p<0.01- pO.OOl). In conclusion in primary care to notice the domestic violence, Prime MD test may be used. Key words: Women, Prime MD, domestic violence, primary care X
