The effect of antenatal education on quality of life and complaints during pregnancy

TYhe study was conducted to determine the effect of antenatal education on quality of life and complaints during pregnancy. This study is a quasi-experimental research with a control group. The study was conducted polyclinics of obstetric and gynecologic hospital in Adana between September 2016- May 2017. The research sample consisted of a total of 60 pregnant including 30 intervention group and 30 control group who were admitted to the polyclinic for antenatal care and met the inclusion criteria. Personal Information Form and Scale of Complaints during Pregnancy and their Effects on Quality of Life (SCPEQL) were used for the collection of data. Percentage distribution, averages, standard deviation and chi-square test, Mann-Whitney U test and Wilcoxon test were used for data evaluation. Total average score of SCPEQL of intervention group was determined as 85,9±22,6, total average score of SCPEQL of control group was determined as 78,0±25,6 in I. trimester. The difference among the groups was not statistically significant acording to the SCPEQL in I. trimester (p>0.05). Total average score of SCPEQL of intervention group was determined as 46,2±21,1, total average score of SCPEQL of control group was determined as 99,8±21,6 in II. trimester. Total average score of SCPEQL of intervention group was determined as 43,5±16,4, total average score of SCPEQL of control group was determined as 108,0±16,8 in III. trimester. The difference among the groups was statistically significant acording to the SCPEQL in II. and III. trimester (p<0.05). It has been determined that antenatal education for pregnant women reduces complaints and increases quality of life. Key Words: antenatal education, complaints in pregnancy, quality of life.
