The nature of diplomacy that nations use to interact with each other is not uniform, nor is the means of utilizing soft power to achieve their ends and policies. Due to the rapid technological innovation taking place around the globe today, innovative forms of diplomacy have arisen, with the most prominent being digital diplomacy, which is a departure from the traditional paradigm of state-to-state diplomacy. This research analyzes the use of digital diplomacy by the United States of America to promote its influence and spread its impact in the international arena. The research addresses the way in which the United States has embraced innovative digital diplomacy tactics to successfully engage with other nations' peoples and governments via the internet and current technology. A historical method was used to expound the evolution of diplomacy and its development, and the context of American diplomacy and its evolutionary past, in order to accomplish the purposes of the current study. Critical method was also applied through reviewing studies and documents that debate the issue of diplomacy and soft power. Content analysis was used through the study of the content of the United States Department of State website to determine the forms of utilization of digital diplomacy as soft power in the country's foreign policies. By examining the American model, the research uncovered how digital diplomacy is converted into soft power employed to advance American interests and values internationally and affect the policy of other nations. Challenges and prospects of utilizing such a method were also mentioned in the study, such as the risk of misinformation and privacy, and the upholding of human rights. The research proved that the use of digital diplomacy as a means to shape foreign policy is a significant strategic evolution that nations interested in increasing their influence in the global arena can pursue with greater ease, subject to maintaining a balance between the effective use of technology and providing transparency and credibility to digital diplomacy communication.
