The examination of Duran Çetin's child stories in terms of values education

The aim of this study is to examine the children's stories of the author Duran Çetin in terms of values education. The method of the research is qualitative research, and the data collection technique is document analysis. The study group consists of twenty-two children's stories, which are included in two works written by Duran Çetin. The research was carried out according to ten root values based on priority in studies called "Turkish Course Curriculum" (MEB, 2019) and "Renewal and Amendment Studies in the Curriculum" (MEB, 2017) within the scope of basic education. In the analysis of the data, the descriptive analysis approach was preferred. In this framework, firstly, the root values mentioned in the stories examined under the name of root value headings were scanned. Then, the detected root value expressions were recorded with page numbers. The root values that appeared in the stories were also presented through tables, moreover, it was concluded which root value was the most preferential. According to the results obtained from this study, it has been determined that all the root values based on the priority by the Ministry of National Education have been processed in Duran Çetin's works examined. But when looking at the level of competence, it was concluded that the root values were processed adequately in some stories and were not processed adequately in other stories. It has been defined that the most prominent root value in the stories discussed is benevolence (43 times), and the least processed root value is patriotism (5 times). In addition, it was concluded that the stories in which the root value of benevolence is processed can be included in Turkish textbooks applied by the Ministry of National Education at the basic education level.
