Investigation of growth hormone levels and its relationship with other parameters in patients with poor over reserve

Abstract (EN)

AIMS: The aim of this study was to investigate serum GH levels in patients undergoing IVF treatment with poor ovarian reserve (POR) and the relationship between serum GH levels and biochemical marker of ovarian reserve serum AMH levels, and other parameters. MATERIAL-METHODS: It was designed as a prospective cross-sectional study. The subjects were selected among the patients who applied to the general gynecology and infertility outpatient clinics of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology in Bursa Uludağ University between February 2019 - April 2019. Women included in the study were divided into three groups as POR (group-I), unexplained infertility (group-II) and control (group-III) groups. A total of 154 cases, 52 in Group-I, 52 in Group-II, 50 in Group-III, were included in the study. Serum AMH and GH levels were studied on the third day of menstrual cycle. Demographic characteristics, AFC, BMI, FSH, LH, E2 levels were recorded. Statistical analyzes were performed using SPSS 21.0 program. RESULTS: When GH levels of all three groups were compared, no statistically significant difference was found between them (p = 0.129). When AMH levels of all three groups were compared, the difference was found to be statistically significant (p <0.001). There was no statistically significant correlation between GH levels and AMH levels in all three groups (p = 0.567, p = 0.516, p = 0.188, respectively). There was a significant negative correlation between GH levels and age in Group-I (p = 0.008). In Group I, a significant negative correlation was found between GH levels and BMI values (r - 0.532 ** p <0.001). There was a significant positive correlation between GH levels and E2 levels in Group-I and Group-II (r 0.314 ** p = 0.028, r 0.311 ** p = 0.025, respectively). CONCLUSIONS: It was thought that age in the DOR group might have a direct effect on GH levels, as well as decrease in age-related ovarian reserve and lower GH levels. In order to explain the effects of GH on ovarian reserve, it is recommended to investigate GH levels with multiple measurements, IGF-I levels which is responsible for the peripheral effect of GH, differences in the menstrual cycle, gonadotropin doses used in IVF treatment, the relationship between GH and embriological parameters and the effects of GH on follicle fluid.
