Abstract (EN)

Gained momentum in recent years for the development of our world, has resulted in many changes of habits and the necessity of renewal of accepted rules in education. The easiest way to be able to adapt the information age, is a qualified education. The main purpose of the education, given in the information age;is to train the individuals who think creatively, to use the information in a creative way, can reveal the creative products and comment on the results of events effectively. In today's information societies, individuals are expected to have the basic mathematical skills.Affective characteristics of students, are thought to be an effect on their cognitive features. This effect occurs more especially on the courses that are abstract and hard to understand, such as mathematics. Therefore, reaching high levels in mathematical achievement of students are believed to have been affected by their affective features. It is observed in many studies, the effects of cognitive features on the learning process are examined. However, the necessity of examining the effects of affective characteristics on the learning process and cognitive features is believed. It is considered that this effect can be analyzed the best in the Problem-based learning environments where students realized his mental activities effectively by actively participating. In this context, to bring out the effects of students affective characteristics on mathematical achievements in problem-based learning process and to help problem-based learning to be used more efficiently in education are aimed. In the study, the effect of the students? affective characteristics on mathematical achievements in the problem-based learning process has been revealed by examining in dimensions learned helplessness, attitudes and concerns. In this way, problem-based learning strategy is thought to be able to deal with various aspects of the contributions to the mathematical achievements of individuals expected to have the development of mathematical ideas in information societies of our epoch.A relational survey method was used in this study. The research population consisted of all students located in Dokuz Eylul University Faculty of Science, Faculty of Maritime, Faculty of Business and Faculty of Engineering. The sample of the research consisted of students taking part in the 6 departments that were randomly selected among the departments which problem-based learning applied and not applied in population.
