Obesity and related factors in kindergarten in Düzce

In the study, determination of obesity and obesity related risk factors in children between the ages of 3-5 who attend two kindergartens in Düzce; It is aimed to inform the families of children who are found to be overweight and obese. Materials and metods The research was carried out with Şükran Öney Kindergarten and Central Kindergarten students in 2018-2019 academic year. In the study period, height and weight measurements of 275 (99.6%) of 276 students, 143 of whom were in Şükran Öney Kindergarten and 133 in Central Kindergarten, were measured. The questionnaire forms consisting of 49 questions were distributed to all parents of the students through teachers or by the researcher to the parents who came to the school. 198 families (71.7%) completed the questionnaire forms. WHO Antro and WHO Anthroplus programs were used to evaluate the height and weight measurements, and the spss package program was used to analyze the data. In the analyzes, p <0.05 was considered statistically significant. Results In students who attend Düzce Şükran Öney kindergarten, obesity rate is 5.6%, overweight rate is 14.1%; These rates were found as 5.3% and 15.3%, respectively, in Düzce Central Kindergarten. The percentage of overweight and obese people in the entire study group was found to be 20.8%. Obesity and overweight were found to be significantly higher in those whose mother's education level was below university, in children who chose to eat, those who watched TV over the weekend, children who were not restricted by internet use, and children who were stated to consume fast food. Conclusion and suggestions The percentage of overweight and obese people in the entire study group was found to be 20.8%. In preventing obesity, informing teachers, children and families regularly about healthy nutrition and physical activity, and measuring and evaluating the height and weight of the children can be effective.
