Abstract (EN)

Background and AimAim of this study is to determine the prevelance of victim and perpetrate of violence in students and the risk and protective factors for violence and the relationship between violence and brief symptom inventory (BSI).MethodsIn this cross-sectional study a total of 2635 students in Düzce University, 994 of them get with a stratified sampling method and reached 844 of them. Questionnare was filled by students under observation of investigator. For statistical analyze spss11.0 was used.ResultsThe number of participation was 671(%79,5) boy students and 173(%20,5) girl students and %39,5 of girl and %31,7 of boy were exposed physical violence in the last year and %62,4 of girls and %51,4 of boys were exposed psychological violence in the last year. Exposure violence in girls was higher from boys (in order of p=0,05, p=0,01).In the last year the rate of perpetrate psychological violence to another person was %36,6 in girls and %42,8 in boys. The rate of perpetrate psychological violence to another person was %58,7 and %55,9 in boys. Boys were more perpetrator than girl students. The 6(%3,5) of girls and the 27(%4,0) of boys informed sexual violence exposure in the last year. Physical dating violence rate was %38,8 in boys and %34,0 in girls. Psychological dating violence rate was %62,6 in girls and %41,2 in boys, psychological dating violence rate was higher in girls than boys (p<0,001).The boys who used alcohol and drug, get gun and knife, had a prior history of violence were perpetrated physical violence more than other boys (In order of p<0,001, p=0,02, p<0,001, p<0,001, p<0,001, p=0,003). The girls who had a prior history of violence were perpetrated physical violence more than other girls (p=0,003).In logistic regression analyses; in boys for physical violence exposure; most important risk factors were carrying knife, having a friend using drug and a prior history of violence. BSI depression sub-scales point in boys who perpetrated violence to another person was 15,51±0,56 and the others depression point was 12,47±0,48, the difference was significant statistically (p<0,001). BSI depression sub-scales point in girls who perpetrated violence to another person was 20,16±1,38 and the others depression point was 16,71±1,0, the difference was significant statistically (p=0,03).ConclusionViolence exposure rate was high both gender, especially girl students. In boys much relationship determined between risk factors and violence, in girls some of them were determined.
