One of the areas affected by the development of technology is the concept of sports. With people's interest in technology and globalization, the world has become a digital village.People who have never seen each other can be in the same environment and do the same activity at the same time. The environment that provides this has been formed with the development of digital games and the internet. The fact that people with a competitive spirit want to compete fiercely has made digital games turn into electronic sports. E-sports, which emerged as a new concept thanks to this evolution, has been supported by large companies, brands and entrepreneurs and continues to see it today. In this study, the concept of e-sports; how it evolved from digital games, how it developed in the economic field, how it happened on an industrial basis, its contributions to the sports economy and the innovations it brought were examined. The aim of this study provide take place in the literature of e-sports in the academic field in Turkey and to contribute to the work that can be done in the future. Apart from this study, whose economic dimension is mainly examined, other researches may contribute to the concept of e-sports. In this way, the fundamentals of e-sports can be explained well.
