Abstract (EN)

Parenthood, one of the structural roles of the family institution, is perceived by individuals as a means of self-realization. The fundamental reason for the possibility and preference of self-realization through this institutional role is the widespread belief in the necessity of parenthood in society. Acceptance of this necessity is facilitated through the promises offered by parenthood to individuals. These promises are based on a prestigious status and a comfortable social life. Access to these promises depends on the parent's adoption of structured views and the reflection of this in their parenting style. In practice, the fundamental indicator of this is the expectations parents place on their children. Here, it is important to show that expectations are entered into, rather than just the fulfillment of these expectations. The purpose of this study is to draw attention to the social construction of the parental role, examine institutionalized expectations, and make visible the inherent characteristics of ostentation trends in family structure. In this regard, the research questions were designed to measure parental perceptions and expectations directed towards children. The designed research was conducted with 160 female and 172 male participants who have a child in the age range of 15-25. The data obtained were analyzed using the Multiple Correspondence Analysis technique in the SPSS 26 program. This method made it possible to focus on overlapping ideas, common acceptances, and distinguishing features in the findings. As a result of the research, it was observed that the majority of participants accepted the idea that raising a child is a societal responsibility, a meaningful purpose, and a profitable investment. The purpose of self-realization is largely observed in those who marry between the ages of 21-25. When common acceptances and expectations from the child are examined together, it is seen that men are much more likely to adopt these views and enter into expectations from the child compared to women. Therefore, it was found that the aspect of parenthood open to ostentation is largely experienced by fathers. The research results indicate that the parenting role serves as a means of self-realization, and expressions emphasizing the necessity of parenting have been acknowledged. However, distinctions have been observed in the pursuit of fulfilling promises. Additionally, relationship patterns supporting and challenging the literature were identified, along with opening avenues for new research.
