Abstract (EN)

Edirne was the capital of Ottoman Empire for 92 years and kept the quality of being second capital until 18. century it has special place not only in political history but also in architectural history. Rıfkı Melül Meriç says:"Edirne is a unique museum city with its big and small architectural monuments which were built for different purposes. These monuments collects all stages of Ottoman Architectural Art." The handwritings in Edirne mosques refletcs the art of Turkish-islamic Calligrafy in a very good way. The Old mosque is famous for its local handwritings and writing pictures. There is a saying which proves the well-known writings of old mosque. This saying is: "The handwritings of old mosque, The door of Üç Şerefeli mosque, The construction of Selimiye mosque." As a result of recent restoration most of the handwritings were destroyed. And now same handwritings are left and the original atmosphere of mosque is destroyed. Muradiye mosque reflects that era's art perceptivity with tiles on its altar, walls and decorations. Recently, same parts of the tiles were stolen and at the same time the other tiles were destroyed. The destruction of the rest of the tiles are continuing because of the people's indifference. The restoration in Üç Şerefeli mosque is still continuing today. The handwritings in Üç Şerefeli mosque renewed at restoration. The writings at courtyard portico domes, construction and repair inscriptions are evaluated with their former pictures. The writing which takes place on leaf of window and door are evaluated with their pictures, texts and readings. "Fatiha" and "Âmene'r-Rasûlıf writings which takes place on the altar wall of Selimiye mosque, tiles and writings on Hünkâr Mahfili, construction and repair inscriptions are evaluated with their pictures and texts. At the other mosques there isn't any original handwritings art except the irscriptions. Except the mosques that we stated above recent writings and inscriptions of the other mosques are presented with their texts, readings and pictures in order to illuminate next generations.
