Evaluation of wind energy potential of Edirne province

In the study, wind, wind energy, electricity production from wind energy, wind turbines, wind power plants, wind energy potential of Edirne province were examined. Our thesis research was conducted to find answers to the advantages and disadvantages of the wind energy potential of Edirne province in terms of establishing a wind power plant. Renewable energies are becoming increasingly important in the energy mix of many countries. In particular, global wind energy production has grown rapidly in recent years. It should also be emphasized that wind energy plays a very important role in mitigating climate change, which has become a priority for the international community. Despite its many advantages, wind energy is one of the most variable resources. It is difficult to integrate the energy produced into the electricity grid. Therefore, an analysis of the time scales related to wind energy, from hourly wind speed averages to seasonal fluctuations, should be carried out. With this analysis, a statistical model is determined to estimate the power output profile of the wind power plant. In this way, investors can estimate the reliability of common power outputs in wind power plant installations and realize the most accurate plant installation. Research has been conducted on this subject in various regions of Turkey and it has been observed that no wind energy assessment has been made in Edirne and its surroundings. The basis of the research was the meteorological wind data in Edirne province. Literature review on wind energy was conducted and data obtained from various institutions were evaluated. The wind energy potential in Edirne province was examined with the research conducted, and in the light of the scientific data obtained, the most accurate method to be used in calculating the wind energy potential required for the wind energy plants planned to be established was found.
